Concern over overcrowding in the CHUAC hospital emergency department
The CIG union has denounced a critical situation in the emergency department of the A Coruña University Hospital Complex (CHUAC). According to the data provided, the hospital is going through its second consecutive week of collapse, which has created serious difficulties in attending to the patients arriving at the medical center.
The situation has reached alarming levels, with a total of 47 patients waiting for a bed in the hospital corridors. This lack of space forces patients to remain in transit areas, which hinders the work of medical staff and affects the privacy and comfort of those in need of urgent care.
The union points out that this problem is not an isolated incident, but has persisted for several days, evidencing a lack of resources or proper management in the face of increased demand for care. Healthcare professionals have expressed their concern about the conditions in which they must carry out their daily work, warning that the quality of care may be compromised.
For their part, patients and their families have expressed their dissatisfaction with the long waits and the lack of available beds. The hospital management has yet to offer a definitive solution to decongest the service, while the pressure on care continues to be very high at the Galician center.
This case highlights the challenges that the public healthcare system in Spain faces in managing spikes in demand. Health authorities will need to evaluate the necessary measures to ensure that all citizens receive dignified and efficient care in emergency services.
