Spain authorizes first level 4 autonomous vehicle tests
Spain has taken an important step toward the future of mobility after granting the first national permit for the development of level 4 autonomous vehicles. The companies WeRide, Uber Technologies, and AVOMO have been chosen to lead this pioneering project in the country.
Level 4 autonomy means that vehicles can drive completely automatically under specific conditions, without the need for constant human intervention. This technology represents a significant advancement compared to the driver assistance systems we use today.
Thanks to this authorization, the three companies will be able to begin the necessary preparatory activities immediately. These tasks include detailed road mapping, the validation of safe routes, and various technical preparation tests in real-world environments.
The main objective of these tests is to ensure the safety and efficiency of the systems before the vehicles can carry passengers. Spanish authorities will closely supervise the entire process to ensure that current traffic and safety regulations are met.
This breakthrough positions Spain as one of the European countries committed to innovation in transportation. If the tests are successful, the transport and logistics sector in our cities could undergo a profound transformation in the coming years.
