The technology sector calls for balanced regulation for data centers in Spain
The Spain DC association, which represents data centers in the country, has recently requested that the Government provide clearer and more proportionate regulation for the sector. According to experts, these facilities are fundamental to the development of the digital economy, but they require rules that do not hinder investment or Spain's competitiveness compared to other European countries.
Data centers are essential infrastructure where the information we use daily on the internet is stored and processed, from email to cloud services. With the rise of artificial intelligence and remote work, the demand for these centers has grown very rapidly in recent years, making Spain a strategic hub for international technology companies.
However, the sector warns that excessive bureaucracy and local regulations that vary significantly from one another can hinder the construction of new projects. Spain DC argues that it is possible to combine technological growth with environmental respect and energy efficiency, provided that laws are consistent and easy for companies to implement.
The ultimate goal of this request is to ensure that Spain maintains its position as a reference hub in Southern Europe. Sector representatives are confident that, through constant dialogue with public administrations, a legal framework can be achieved that fosters innovation without placing unnecessary obstacles in the way of the country's technological development.
