Spanish Navy develops autonomous ships with Andalusian technology
The Spanish Navy has taken a significant step toward the future of maritime navigation. For its ambitious new innovation program, the institution has selected three technology companies from Andalusia. The main objective of this project is to design an autonomous vessel—that is, a ship capable of navigating and carrying out missions without the need for a human crew on board.
The companies chosen to lead this advancement are Ghenova, Solar Mems Technologies, and AGPhotonics. These companies, based in southern Spain, are leaders in their respective technological sectors. Their participation in the program highlights the relevance of the Andalusian industry in developing advanced solutions for defense and naval engineering.
The project focuses on the integration of intelligent systems, high-precision sensors, and photonics technologies. These elements will allow the ship to detect obstacles and make navigation decisions automatically. Experts point out that autonomous vessels are fundamental for the future, as they can perform surveillance or rescue tasks in dangerous conditions without putting human lives at risk.
This collaboration represents a milestone for technological innovation in Spain and reinforces the link between the military sector and private enterprise. With the development of this vessel, the Navy seeks to position itself at the forefront of international naval technology, demonstrating the talent and competitive capacity of Spanish engineers and scientists.
