Madrid closes six historic parks due to strong wind gusts
Madrid City Council has announced the preventive closure of six of its most iconic parks, including the emblematic Retiro Park, starting at 6:00 p.m. today. This measure has been taken following established safety protocols in response to the adverse weather conditions affecting the capital.
The decision is in response to an alert for strong wind gusts, which have reached speeds of up to 71 kilometers per hour in some areas of the city. Authorities have indicated that the primary objective is to prevent potential accidents caused by falling branches or trees due to the intensity of the storm.
In addition to Retiro Park, five other historic green spaces in the city will remain closed to the public until conditions improve. Municipal staff are working to secure the facilities and carry out the necessary inspections before allowing visitor access once again.
Citizens and tourists are advised to avoid walking through wooded areas over the next few hours and to follow official updates through the City Council's communication channels. The reopening of the parks will depend on the evolution of the weather and the safety of the grounds.
