Red alert on the Costa Blanca: extreme temperatures of up to 44 degrees
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated a red alert in a large part of the Costa Blanca due to an intense heatwave. Temperatures are expected to reach 44 degrees Celsius in the coming hours, which poses a significant health risk to citizens and tourists visiting the area.
Authorities have asked the public to take extreme precautions during the hottest times of the day, especially between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM. It is recommended to avoid outdoor physical activities, drink plenty of water, and stay in cool or air-conditioned places to prevent heatstroke.
This episode of extreme heat mainly affects inland areas of the Alicante province, although it will also be felt in coastal areas. Emergency services are on high alert to respond to any incidents related to the high temperatures, paying special attention to the most vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and children.
AEMET has indicated that this phenomenon is the result of a very warm air mass coming from North Africa. Temperatures are expected to begin to drop gradually starting next weekend, although the risk of forest fires will remain very high throughout the region over the coming days.
All residents and visitors are advised to follow official updates through Civil Protection communication channels and local media. It is essential to follow the authorities' instructions to ensure everyone's safety during this extreme weather event.
