The CNMC establishes new rules to improve the stability of the electricity market in Spain
The National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC) has recently published new regulations aimed at improving the functioning of the electricity market in Spain. The main objective of this measure is to prevent technical failures that occur during daily energy auctions, thus guaranteeing a more efficient and transparent system for all consumers.
According to the new rules, the electricity system operator, Red Eléctrica (TSO), is now required to publish its energy schedule for the following day before 14:45. This measure seeks to reduce market uncertainty and ensure that participants have the necessary information well in advance to carry out their operations.
This change responds to the need to avoid delays in the processes of buying and selling electricity. In the past, a lack of coordination in publication schedules had caused problems in intraday auctions, which directly affected price stability and the electricity supply in the country.
With this regulation, the CNMC intends to strengthen the security of the Spanish energy market. By establishing a clear time limit, the authorities hope that the process will be more predictable and that technical errors that could harm the proper functioning of the national electricity sector will be minimized.
