Spain is the European country most concerned about extreme weather this summer
Spain has established itself as the country in Europe showing the highest level of concern regarding the risk of extreme weather events. With the arrival of the summer season, Spanish citizens are expressing growing anxiety over the potential consequences of climate change and high temperatures across the national territory.
According to several recent studies, Spaniards are more alert than their European neighbors to threats such as intense heatwaves, prolonged droughts, and wildfires. This concern comes as no surprise, as Spain has experienced extremely hot summers in recent years, reaching historic temperature records in many autonomous communities.
This sense of alarm also affects key sectors of the economy, especially tourism. Experts suggest that extreme heat could modify travelers' habits in the future. Some tourists might begin choosing cooler destinations in Northern Europe or decide to travel in spring or autumn to avoid the stifling temperatures of July and August.
Compared to other countries on the continent, the Spanish population's sensitivity toward climate issues is significantly higher. While in some regions of Northern Europe the rise in temperatures is perceived as something distant, in the Iberian Peninsula, the effects of global warming are already a visible reality that impacts public health and the environment.
Given this scenario, both authorities and civil society are seeking ways to adapt to this new climate reality. Public awareness is essential for implementing prevention and protection measures. The debate on how to protect the natural environment and ensure the safety of the population during the hottest months remains an absolute priority on the national agenda.
