Junts, PP and Vox reject housing decrees in Congress
The Congress of Deputies experienced a day of great political tension following the decision by the Junts per Catalunya party to vote against two important housing decrees. This stance, added to the rejection by the Popular Party and Vox, prevented the Government from pushing through key measures for the protection of citizens regarding housing matters.
The rejected decrees included fundamental regulations, such as the extension of the suspension of evictions for families in situations of economic vulnerability. These measures were designed by the Executive to offer a social shield against the housing crisis, a problem that affects thousands of households throughout Spanish territory.
The joining of forces between Junts, the PP and Vox has surprised a large part of the parliamentary spectrum. Although these parties have very different ideologies, on this occasion they coincided in their refusal, which represents a significant obstacle for the Government's legislative agenda on a subject as sensitive as access to decent housing.
Following this vote, the Government will have to seek new ways to negotiate and try to recover these measures in the future. In the meantime, uncertainty remains regarding what will happen to the families who depend on this aid and legal protections to avoid eviction from their homes.
The situation highlights the Government's difficulty in reaching stable agreements in Congress during this legislative term. The politics of blocs and the lack of consensus on social issues will continue to be the main points of debate on Spain's political agenda in the coming weeks.
