Most Spaniards support Europe's technological independence
A new report titled 'Digital Sovereignty in Europe 2026' has revealed important data regarding the opinion of citizens in Spain. According to this study, conducted by Fundación Telefónica and Metroscopia, the vast majority of Spaniards believe that Europe must be more independent in the technological sector to secure its future.
The study highlights that 62% of Spaniards believe that depending on technology from other countries represents a real threat to Europe's security. This concern reflects the desire to protect personal data and the continent's critical infrastructure against possible external risks or decisions by foreign powers.
Furthermore, the report shows an almost total consensus on the need to act quickly. 86% of citizens and 91% of companies in Spain firmly support the idea of digital sovereignty. This means that the country seeks to develop its own tools, programs, and technological services so as not to always have to purchase them from outside the European Union.
In conclusion, the results of this report underline the importance of innovation within our borders. For Spaniards, investing in their own technology is not just an economic matter, but a strategic priority to ensure a more secure, autonomous, and competitive future in today's digital world.
