Europe prepares to strengthen its digital sovereignty by 2027
The European Union has marked 2027 as a key date for transforming its technological strategy. The main objective of European institutions is to achieve greater digital sovereignty, reducing dependence on external providers and strengthening the ability to control the continent's data and technological infrastructure.
This initiative seeks to ensure that Europe plays a more leading role in the development of critical technologies, such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and cybersecurity. For Spain, this shift is fundamental, as the country is investing heavily in the digitalization of its business fabric and in the training of specialized talent to adapt to these new European standards.
Despite this ambition to be more independent, experts point out that Europe has no intention of breaking its technological ties with other global markets. The strategy is based on a balance: fostering internal innovation and protecting the interests of European citizens, while maintaining the international cooperation necessary for trade and technical development.
The challenge for the coming years will be to close the gap between political goals and actual execution capacity. Although the path toward autonomy is complex, the European Union's commitment reflects the importance of ensuring security and competitiveness in an increasingly digitalized world.
