Spanish airports record a record increase in passengers in 2026
Airports in the Aena network in Spain have experienced significant growth during the first half of 2026. According to official data published recently, airport facilities handled a total of 156.2 million passengers between January and June.
This figure represents an increase of 3.7% compared to the same period of the previous year. These results reflect the steady recovery of the tourism sector and the high demand for both domestic and international travel that has been maintained in the country over recent months.
The increase in passenger volume is a key indicator for the Spanish economy, as air transport is fundamental to the service sector. The airports with the highest traffic, such as Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona-El Prat, have been the main drivers of this growth, managing a large portion of the total flow of travelers.
Airport authorities have highlighted that the infrastructure has responded correctly to this increase in activity. Despite the rise in the number of flights and people, operations have been carried out within the normal parameters expected for the high season.
Looking ahead to the rest of the year, forecasts suggest that the positive trend could continue if tourist interest in visiting Spain remains steady. The aviation sector is now preparing to manage the flow of passengers during the summer months, which are usually the busiest for the Aena network.
