Earthquake in Venezuela: 235 dead and thousands injured
Venezuela is facing a severe humanitarian crisis after two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 were recorded, devastating several areas of the country. This situation especially affects the large Venezuelan community living in Spain, who remain attentive to news about their relatives and the progress of rescue efforts in the affected areas.
The Government of Venezuela has confirmed 235 deaths and more than 4,300 injuries so far as a result of the earthquakes. The La Guaira area (a key port city near Caracas) has suffered catastrophic damage, with much of its infrastructure reduced to rubble. Initial reports highlight that the lack of investment in prevention and the country's economic situation have worsened the impact of the tremors compared to other regions of the world with high seismic activity.
