The startup ecosystem in Spain reaches 12,000 companies
The technology sector in Spain is experiencing a period of constant growth. According to the most recent data from the national startup ecosystem, the country now has 12,000 emerging companies in operation, consolidating its position as one of the most dynamic innovation hubs in Europe.
During the first six months of 2026, investment in this sector reached 2.059 billion euros. This figure reflects investor confidence in the talent and projects developed by Spanish entrepreneurs, despite the absence of major global tech giants in the local market.
The sector's goal for the end of 2026 is to reach the figure of 18 companies under the "unicorn" category. A unicorn is considered to be a startup that achieves a valuation of over 1 billion dollars without having gone public, a milestone that demonstrates the maturity and scalability of Spanish companies.
This development not only boosts the country's economy but also fosters the creation of qualified employment in areas such as artificial intelligence, sustainability, and digital transformation. The ecosystem continues to work on strengthening its structure and attracting more international capital in the coming months.
