The CNMC investigates several airport services companies for possible anti-competitive practices
The National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC) has launched a formal investigation into several companies operating at Spanish airports. Among the companies under suspicion are Aviapartner, General Aviation, Sky Valet, United Aviation, and Universal Aviation. The regulatory body seeks to determine whether these companies have engaged in practices contrary to free competition in the ground handling sector.
The focus of the investigation centers on possible illegal agreements between these companies to fix prices or divide the market for private and executive aviation services. According to the CNMC, these behaviors could have harmed both air operators and end users by limiting choice and increasing the costs of airport services in Spain.
The inspections carried out by the CNMC are part of a sanctioning procedure that is in its initial phase. Over the coming months, the organization's technicians will analyze all seized documentation and the operational data of the companies involved. If the irregularities are confirmed, the companies could face significant financial penalties for violating the Competition Defense Act.
For their part, the companies under investigation have stated that they will fully cooperate with the authorities during the process. This case underscores the importance of oversight in a strategic sector for tourism and the Spanish economy, where the proper functioning of airport services is fundamental to ensuring the competitiveness of national airports against other European markets.
The CNMC has reiterated that the initiation of this investigation does not prejudge the final outcome of the case. The administrative process will continue its legal course, and it is expected that the final resolution will bring greater transparency to the general aviation services market in Spain.
