Spain falls below the European average in telework implementation
The remote work model remains an unresolved challenge for the Spanish labor market. According to recent data, only 15.7% of employees in Spain currently work remotely, a figure that contrasts significantly with the 23% recorded as the European Union average.
This seven-percentage-point difference highlights that Spain is still far from the levels of labor flexibility already enjoyed by other neighboring countries. Despite the changes experienced after the pandemic, a culture of presenteeism remains predominant in many of the country's companies.
Experts point out that this gap not only affects work-life balance but also the ability of Spanish companies to attract international talent. Adapting to new ways of working is seen by many analysts as a necessity to improve competitiveness in an increasingly digitized global market.
Faced with this scenario, business leaders and startup founders face the challenge of transforming their organizational structures. The implementation of more robust telework policies could be the key to closing this gap with Europe and offering better conditions to Spanish workers in the coming years.
