Asturias: waiting lists rise; new ALS unit & more

If you live in Asturias, medical waiting lists have grown following the strikes, although wait times remain stable. On the other hand, ALS patients in Valencia now have a new specialized center, and in Toledo, funds have been approved to repair old buildings.

If you have a pending consultation or surgery in Asturias, be aware that the waiting list increased in May to 178,824 people. This represents 683 more patients than the previous month, an increase primarily caused by recent medical strikes. Despite more people waiting, the Health Service (Sespa) ensures that the average time to be seen has not significantly worsened and that the impact of the strikes has been contained.

Patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and rare diseases in Valencia now have a new multidisciplinary unit at La Fe Hospital as of today. This 425-square-meter space allows patients to receive diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation in a single location, preventing them from having to travel between different specialists. The unit brings together experts from various fields to offer continuous and coordinated monitoring of these pathologies.

If you reside in Toledo's historic district, the city Consortium has allocated nearly 300,000 euros to rehabilitate buildings on Aljibes and Travesía de la Plata streets. These grants will cover the cost of works to repair facades, cornices, and other deteriorated elements of the selected properties. The goal is to improve the conservation of residential heritage in the oldest areas of the city.
