Judicial investigation into the Plus Ultra airline bailout continues
The Spanish justice system has decided to keep the investigation into the state bailout granted to the airline Plus Ultra open. The case centers on the 53 million euros that the Government awarded to the company during the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero has attempted to halt the actions of the Economic and Fiscal Crime Unit (UDEF) in relation to this matter. However, the courts have rejected his requests, allowing the authorities to continue examining his accounts and potential irregularities in the public aid process.
The investigation seeks to clarify whether the airline met all the legal requirements necessary to receive such a large amount of public money. UDEF agents are analyzing the financial documentation to determine if there was any preferential treatment or if the bailout was carried out in strict accordance with the regulations in force at that time.
This judicial process remains a subject of great public interest in Spain, as it calls into question the management of funds intended to save strategic companies during the health crisis. For now, the case remains in the investigative phase and it is expected that the authorities will continue to gather evidence to clarify the facts.
