WHO warns of health system collapse in Yemen following surge in violence
The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a grave warning regarding the humanitarian situation in Yemen. According to the international body, the country's health system is currently on the verge of collapse due to a recent and worrying surge in hostilities in the region.
The conflict, which has been affecting the civilian population for years, has experienced a new escalation of violence in recent weeks. This increase in clashes has led to a significant rise in the number of deaths and injuries, placing unsustainable pressure on local hospitals and medical centers.
In addition to the direct victims of the fighting, the instability has caused the forced displacement of thousands of people. These families, who have had to abandon their homes, now find themselves in highly vulnerable situations, without access to basic services, drinking water, or essential medical care to survive.
The WHO has pointed out that the Yemeni health system was already extremely fragile before this latest episode of violence. The lack of medical supplies, the shortage of healthcare personnel, and damage to hospital infrastructure greatly complicate the ability to respond to this humanitarian emergency.
Faced with this situation, the international community is watching the impact of the crisis on civilians with concern. The organization is making an urgent appeal to protect health facilities and ensure that humanitarian aid can reach the most affected areas without obstacles, in order to avoid a greater catastrophe in the country.
