Villaeffekten opens at 09:00 on Tuesday: what you need to have ready

Applications for the grant for energy efficiency in detached houses, Villaeffekten, open at 09:00 on Tuesday, September 1st. Applications are made via the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning's (Boverket) e-service. There are two things that stop many people right at the door, and both can be resolved in advance: you need electronic identification to log in, and you need to have your supporting documents ready to upload digitally.

Electronic identification effectively means BankID or an equivalent. If you do not have this arranged, it is worth sorting it out before Tuesday morning, as you will not be able to access the e-service without it. The documents, such as proof of material costs, are uploaded directly into the service. The grant covers 30 percent of the material costs for energy and power efficiency measures, up to a maximum of 60,000 SEK per detached house. Measures initiated from October 17, 2025, onwards can be included.

One thing that many people miss: there are two applications, not one. First, you apply for the grant. Once the measure has been completed, you must also apply for the payout. If you only complete the first step, you will not receive any money.

It is also good to know who answers what, so that you do not get stuck with the wrong authority. The County Administrative Board in the county where the house is located processes the case, decides on the grant, and answers questions about what the application should contain and which measures qualify. The application is automatically forwarded there once you have submitted it in the e-service. Boverket is responsible for the e-service itself, answers technical questions, pays out the money, and handles appeals of the County Administrative Board's decisions.

The grant applies to you if you own and permanently reside in a detached house heated by electricity or gas. If you rent your home, you are not covered. The government has allocated 300 million SEK per year through 2030, so it is not a pot of money that will run out in the morning. However, processing is faster if the documentation is complete from the start. Have your electronic identification and documents ready before the clock strikes nine.
