More hospital beds in Sweden – but the shortage remains
The number of available hospital beds in Swedish hospitals has increased compared to the previous year. According to fresh figures from the National Board of Health and Welfare, there are now a total of 15,747 hospital beds in the country.
Although the increase is positive, experts emphasize that the situation remains strained. The need for hospital beds is greater than the current supply, which means that many hospitals still find it difficult to meet patients' needs in an effective manner.
The shortage of hospital beds has long been a major challenge for the Swedish healthcare system. It affects both waiting times at emergency departments and the ability to plan surgeries for patients who require care.
The National Board of Health and Welfare continues to monitor the development closely. Even though the trend is pointing in the right direction, further efforts and resources are likely required to ensure that all patients receive the care they need in time.
