60,000 kronor in grants: applications open at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday
From 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, it will be possible to apply for the government grant for energy efficiency in detached houses, which the government calls the "Villa Effect." Applications are made via the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning's (Boverket) e-service using electronic identification, and the County Administrative Board in the county where the house is located will process the case and make the decision. The government has allocated 300 million kronor per year until the end of 2030, and applications are processed in the order they are received.
The grant covers 30 percent of the material costs, up to a maximum of 60,000 kronor per detached house. Grants already paid out during the previous round in 2023–2025 are included in that cap. The support applies to those who own a detached house, and semi-detached, terraced, and linked houses are also covered. Houses that are already heated with district heating are excluded, but it is possible to apply for a grant to connect the house to the district heating network. Labor costs are not included—only materials.
Eligible materials include heat pumps, biofuel boilers, water-borne radiators, district heating units, FTX ventilation with heat recovery, chimneys, control equipment, windows, doors, and insulation. The materials must have been ordered on or after October 17, 2025. Applications should normally be submitted within six months of the work commencing, but for measures started between October 17, 2025, and August 31, 2026, the deadline is instead February 28, 2027.
The money is paid out only once the measure is completed and you have formally requested payment. Therefore, prepare your documents in advance: technical specifications or product sheets for what has been installed, and invoices or receipts that clearly distinguish material costs from labor costs and show when the work started and was completed. If you have questions about what your specific measure may be eligible for, the County Administrative Board in your county will provide answers—Boverket is responsible for the e-service and the disbursement.
