Teenagers stole warning system to use as speakers
An unusual theft has occurred at a high school in Sweden. An alarm system of the "Hesa Fredrik" type, used to warn the public in case of danger, has been stolen from the school grounds.
Police launched an investigation after the alarm disappeared. It soon turned out that a group of teenagers was behind the incident. The purpose of the theft was not to cause panic, but to use the technical components of the alarm for something entirely different.
According to the youths involved, the plan was to install the alarm system's parts into their modified cars. They wanted to use them as powerful speakers to play music. Stealing equipment vital to society to modify vehicles is, however, a serious crime.
"Hesa Fredrik" is the popular name for the important outdoor warning system that is deployed throughout Sweden. The system is tested regularly to ensure it functions should a real crisis or war occur.
The theft has sparked reactions as the equipment is important for the country's preparedness. The police emphasize that it is illegal to take property belonging to the school or the state, regardless of the purpose of the theft.
