Guarantee pension 2027: 81 kronor more per month - not 2,000
Have you seen headlines claiming that pensions will be increased by 2,000 kronor per month? That is a political proposal, not a decision. Here are the actual figures.
WHAT HAS BEEN CALCULATED
The price base amount for 2027 has been calculated at 59,600 kronor. This is an increase of 400 kronor compared to 2026, or 0.7 percent. The guarantee pension follows the price base amount.
For a single person with the maximum guarantee pension, this means the amount increases from 11,988 kronor to 12,069 kronor per month - an increase of 81 kronor.
For married individuals, the maximum level increases from 10,853 kronor to 10,927 kronor, which is 74 kronor more per month.
The increased price base amount, which is used to calculate pensionable income, has been calculated at 60,900 kronor.
The amounts have been calculated by Statistics Sweden (SCB) on behalf of the government. The government will formally establish them later this autumn.
"For most households, there will be no major impact on their wallets," says Stefan Westerberg, private economist at Länsförsäkringar. "For students and pensioners with a guarantee pension, it is a matter of about a hundred kronor."
WHERE DOES THE 2,000 KRONOR FIGURE COME FROM?
The figure comes from the Left Party. Party leader Nooshi Dadgostar announced on SVT's Morgonstudion that the party is campaigning on a promise to raise pensions by 2,000 kronor per month during the next parliamentary term. The proposal is estimated to cost around 20 billion kronor and, according to the party, is to be financed by increasing the old-age pension contribution from just over 17 to 18.5 percent.
This is an election promise for the 2026 election. No such increase has been decided.
ONE MORE THING TO KNOW
The price base amount also affects the basic deduction, the earned income tax credit, and the threshold for state income tax. For most wage earners and pensioners, the tax will effectively remain unchanged. People with higher incomes, however, may receive a tax cut of just over 300 kronor per month, primarily due to the standard adjustment of the tax threshold.
In other words: the guarantee pensioner gets 81 kronor more per month, while the high-income earner gets about 300 kronor in tax relief.
