Sharp increase in TBE cases in Sweden this year
The number of people infected with the TBE virus in Sweden has increased significantly this year. So far, 213 cases have been reported, which is a clear increase compared to previous years.
During the same period last year, the number of infected people was 138, and the year before that, 2022, the figure was 111 cases. The current statistics therefore show that the spread of the virus has accelerated significantly faster than in the previous two years.
TBE, or tick-borne encephalitis, is a viral disease spread through tick bites. The virus can cause inflammation of the brain or the membranes surrounding the brain, which often leads to high fever, headache, and muscle aches. In some cases, the disease can cause serious and long-lasting health problems.
Authorities and experts emphasize the importance of protecting oneself against ticks when spending time in nature, especially in areas where the virus is common. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent the disease and reduce the risk of serious complications.
With the increasing trend, the public is urged to be extra vigilant regarding tick bites and to seek medical care if experiencing symptoms after being out in forests and fields. Wearing covering clothing and checking the skin for ticks are simple but important measures to reduce the risk of being affected.
