AI may make smartphone apps redundant in the future
Artificial intelligence (AI) is developing at a furious pace and is changing how we use our mobile phones. While major tech companies like Apple and Google are focusing on adding new AI features to their existing apps, we are seeing a different trend in China. There, companies are now beginning to completely replace traditional apps with AI solutions.
In a new analysis, expert Mike Elgan writes that Chinese developers are going a step further than their Western counterparts. Instead of the user having to open a specific app to carry out a task, an AI service can handle the task directly. This means that the need to download and manage hundreds of different apps on the phone could decrease drastically.
For the user, this could mean a simpler everyday life where a single AI assistant helps with everything from booking travel to ordering food. The technology is based on the AI model understanding the user's needs and communicating with various services in the background, which makes the user interface on the phone look completely different from what we are used to today.
Although development in China is moving quickly, it remains to be seen how this will affect the global market. If the trend spreads to Europe and Sweden, it could mean major changes for both app developers and how we interact with our smartphones in the future.
