More Swedes need care for obesity – despite access to treatment
An increasing number of people in Sweden are being diagnosed with obesity today. Although the healthcare system has access to effective treatment methods, new statistics show that still too few patients are receiving the help they need.
Experts point out that obesity is a chronic disease that requires long-term follow-up and support. Even though knowledge about the disease has increased within the healthcare sector, there are still major regional differences in how patients are cared for.
One of the challenges is that the healthcare system does not always succeed in reaching everyone in need of treatment. This can be due to both a lack of resources and the fact that many patients perceive the barriers to seeking care as high.
Looking ahead, authorities and healthcare providers emphasize the importance of making treatment methods more accessible. The goal is for more people to be able to receive the right support in time to improve their health and reduce the risk of secondary diseases.
