Interpharma warns: US price pressure threatens drug supply in Switzerland
The managing director of the industry association Interpharma has warned of a serious development for the Swiss healthcare system. According to his assessment, growing price pressure from the US is leading to a situation where access to new and innovative medicines in Switzerland could be at risk.
The problem lies in the global pricing of pharmaceuticals. When international corporations are forced to lower their prices due to political mandates or economic pressure in the US, this often has direct consequences for smaller markets like Switzerland. The pharmaceutical industry warns that Switzerland could receive less priority in the introduction of new therapies in the future.
For Swiss patients, this means potential uncertainty regarding the supply of modern medication. If new preparations no longer reach the Swiss market, or do so only with significant delays due to economic conditions, medical advancements might not arrive in the country in a timely manner.
The industry is now calling for close monitoring of the situation. It remains to be seen how the Swiss authorities will respond to these challenges in order to secure the high quality of medical care in the country over the long term.
