Federal Councilors celebrate August 1st: A sign of cohesion
On August 1st, Switzerland celebrated its national holiday. Once again this year, members of the federal government used the occasion to emphasize the importance of diversity and cohesion in the country in their speeches.
A central location for the festivities was the historic Rütli Meadow in the canton of Uri. Over 1,100 people gathered on the mountain meadow to celebrate Switzerland's birthday together. The event was organized by the Swiss Society for the Common Good (SSCG).
In their addresses, the government members highlighted how important peaceful coexistence is for the future of Switzerland. Despite differing opinions and cultural diversity, cohesion remains the foundation of the country.
The celebration on the Rütli is traditionally considered an important moment for national identity. The presence of the Federal Councilors underscored the government's connection to the people in all regions of Switzerland.
The national holiday concluded with numerous other events in the cantons. However, the message from the federal government remains clear: Switzerland is only strong together.
