Trend Reversal in Switzerland: Majority Rejects 10-Million Initiative

In Switzerland, there is an important discussion about the future of the country. A new survey now shows a significant change in public opinion. The so-called "10-Million Switzerland Initiative" is losing support. While many people were in favor of the proposal at the beginning, a majority now plans to vote against it.

The initiative was launched by the Swiss People's Party (SVP). The main goal of this proposal is to strictly limit population growth in Switzerland. The party wants to prevent the country's population from exceeding the limit of 10 million people. The SVP officially refers to this project as the "Sustainability Initiative."

However, the current survey by the "Leewas" research group shows a new picture. Now, 52 percent of respondents state that they intend to reject the initiative. This is a surprise, as the first survey still predicted a majority for the project. The tide has turned, and skepticism in society is growing.

Two groups in particular have changed their minds in recent weeks: women and young people. In the first phase of the debate, many of them were still undecided or in favor. Now, however, they have moved into the "no" camp. They fear negative consequences for the economy and Switzerland's international cooperation.

Nevertheless, the discussion about the initiative remains very lively. Proponents argue that the country must be protected from overcrowding to preserve the environment and infrastructure. Opponents, on the other hand, see a rigid limit as a danger to prosperity and the labor market. In the end, Swiss citizens will decide at the ballot box which path the country will take.
