Mental health: Young adults in Switzerland under pressure
A current report by the insurer AXA shows a worrying trend in the mental health of young people. According to the study, 59 percent of 18- to 34-year-olds feel mentally burdened or are struggling with personal difficulties. This figure is significantly higher than the global average.
The results highlight that the younger generation in Switzerland, in particular, is facing growing pressure. Compared to global data, the proportion of those affected in this age group is 13 percentage points higher. This suggests that young adults in this country are dealing with specific challenges.
Experts have long observed that factors such as performance pressure, social media, and economic uncertainty can strain mental health. The data from AXA underscores the need to place the topic of mental health more firmly at the center of public debate and healthcare provision.
The report serves as an important indication for employers, educational institutions, and the healthcare system. It remains to be seen what measures will be taken to better support young people during this phase of life and to reduce mental strain in the long term.
