Free Sunscreen & Heatwave in Europe
Free sunscreen dispensers are now available in Switzerland to reduce the high risk of skin cancer. Meanwhile, the heatwave in Europe is claiming numerous lives, and a religious group in Valais is facing excommunication. Additionally, there was a fatal plane crash near the border.
You can now obtain free sunscreen at public locations throughout Switzerland. Since Switzerland has one of the highest rates of skin cancer worldwide, dispensers have been set up across the country to improve public protection.
Sun protection is particularly important given the current weather conditions, as the heat can be life-threatening. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that more than 1,300 people in Europe have already died from the effects of extreme temperatures since June 21.
While the heat is a pan-European issue, a religious conflict is causing a stir in the canton of Valais: the ultra-conservative Society of Saint Pius X (a traditionalist Catholic group) is facing excommunication from the church. The trigger is an unauthorized episcopal consecration; the society is also under criticism for its radical views and rejection of modern church reforms.
Alongside these tensions, there is tragic news from the aviation sector: eleven people have died in a crash near Nancy in eastern France. The aircraft involved was a Pilatus PC-6 model, a Swiss-made multi-purpose aircraft; the cause of the crash remains unclear.
