Severe storms cause damage in Switzerland
Severe thunderstorms occurred in various regions of Switzerland last evening. The weather situation was unstable, leading to heavy rainfall and strong gusts of wind. The storms left clear traces, particularly in the canton of Zurich and other areas.
In the municipality of Illnau-Effretikon in the canton of Zurich, the storm caused significant damage. The wind gusts were so strong that they completely swept away the roof of a building. Fortunately, according to initial reports, no one was seriously injured, but the property damage is considerable.
Dangerous weather phenomena also occurred in Horgen on Lake Zurich. Heavy hail fell there within a short period of time. Some of the hailstones were so large that they caused damage to vehicles and buildings. Local authorities and emergency services were deployed to secure the situation and begin cleanup efforts.
Meteorologists continue to warn of an unstable weather pattern. Citizens are urged to follow current weather reports closely and to be cautious when thunderstorms arise. Cleanup work in the affected municipalities is expected to take some time.
