Transport Plans Through 2045 and Ban on Nazi Symbols in Switzerland
The Federal Council has presented far-reaching infrastructure plans through 2045. At the same time, a new law is intended to restrict the use of Nazi symbols. Additionally, an extreme heatwave is gripping the country, while internationally, a ceasefire in Lebanon has been reported.
By the year 2045, the federal government aims to massively expand rail and road transport. The Federal Council presented a program featuring numerous projects to resolve issues for drivers and rail passengers. By reprioritizing construction projects, bottlenecks are to be eliminated and capacities secured for the long term.
Displaying Nazi symbols in public is to be prohibited in Switzerland in the future. The Federal Council has approved a draft law on this matter, which must now be decided upon by Parliament. Previously, the use of such symbols was only punishable if they were clearly used for propaganda purposes. The new law is intended to close this legal loophole.
Switzerland is currently suffering from an extreme heatwave that is lasting unusually long. Temperatures are so high that they could exceed the records of the well-known heatwave summer of 2003. The persistent heat represents a significant burden.
In the Middle East, there are signs of de-escalation. A ceasefire has been agreed upon between Israel and the Hezbollah militia in Lebanon, which, according to reports, has been largely observed since 5 p.m. U.S. government circles had previously reported the agreement.
