Swiss Market Index ends losing streak with slight gain
The Swiss stock market was able to stop a prolonged period of losses on Friday. The Swiss Market Index (SMI) closed the trading session with a gain of 0.3 percent, reaching a level of 13,775.27 points.
Although the overall index ended the trading day in positive territory, the performance of individual companies varied. In particular, the so-called heavyweights, i.e., the largest companies on the market, ended the week with a decline. This shows that sentiment on the stock exchange remains cautious despite the slight increase.
On the other hand, there were also winners. Computer accessories manufacturer Logitech benefited from a positive trend in US technology stocks and was able to make gains. Shares of companies such as Amrize and the major bank UBS also recorded price increases on Friday.
This result concludes an eventful trading week for investors in Switzerland. The SMI thus remains an important indicator of the economic climate in the country, even if global influences continue to play a major role in the development of share prices.
