Switzerland is suffering from an extreme heatwave
Switzerland is currently experiencing an exceptionally hot summer, which is posing major challenges for the country. The high temperatures are not only straining infrastructure but also having a direct impact on the daily lives of the population.
The situation is particularly critical in retirement and nursing homes. Many of these buildings do not have modern air conditioning, which is becoming a health risk, especially for the elderly residents. Nursing staff are doing their best to keep the rooms as cool as possible, but they are often reaching their limits.
Swiss agriculture is also suffering from the prolonged heat and drought. Farmers are reporting difficult conditions for their animals and crops. Many farmers have to provide intensive care for their livestock due to dried-out pastures and a lack of feed.
Experts are observing this development with concern and point out that such extreme weather events could occur more frequently in the future. Switzerland must therefore adapt in the long term to ensure the safety and health of its people, as well as the stability of its agriculture, even in high temperatures.
