Swiss modernizes fleet: New Airbus A350 flies over Switzerland

The airline Swiss has reached another milestone in its fleet modernization. The company recently took delivery of its third Airbus A350-900. To celebrate the arrival, the new aircraft completed a special sightseeing flight, which passed over the canton of Zug among other areas and drew the attention of many observers.

The new aircraft type is an important step for the airline's sustainability goals. According to Swiss, the A350 models consume about 20 percent less fuel than their predecessors. This helps to reduce the company's CO2 emissions in the long term and make flight operations more efficient.

With the introduction of the modern A350 fleet, the airline is gradually phasing out older aircraft types. The Airbus A340s currently still in service are to be retired in the coming years. This process is part of a comprehensive strategy to keep the fleet at the cutting edge of technology.

A specific destination for the last retired A340 model has already been set: it is scheduled to take its final flight in 2028, though no longer for passenger transport. After being taken out of service, the aircraft will be transferred to the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne, where it will be preserved as an exhibit for the public.

The investment in new aircraft shows how the Swiss aviation industry is responding to the challenges of climate change. While passengers benefit from greater comfort, the industry is working intensively on technological solutions for more environmentally friendly air travel.
