Heavy rain causes traffic chaos on the A2 in Ticino
Heavy rainfall led to dangerous conditions on the A2 motorway in Ticino on Tuesday. The masses of water washed large quantities of earth and mud directly onto the road, bringing traffic to a complete standstill at times.
Several vehicles became stuck in the mud and were unable to continue their journey. Emergency services were on site to recover the blocked cars and clear the road of debris.
The Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) has urged road users in the region to exercise caution. Due to the wet road surfaces, there remains an increased risk of hydroplaning. Drivers are asked to adjust their speed and follow the instructions of the police.
