Finally Rain: Relief Across Switzerland
After a long period of drought, many parts of Switzerland finally saw precipitation again on Monday morning. The long-awaited rain fell in German-speaking Switzerland as well as in Western Switzerland, bringing a noticeable cooling.
Relief is particularly great in agricultural areas. An example of the joy over the wet weather comes from Wigoltingen in the canton of Thurgau. There, the animals in the pastures appeared particularly lively as the first drops fell onto the dry ground.
The drought of the past few weeks had caused many farmers concern, as the soil had dried out and the grass in the pastures was barely growing anymore. The rain is therefore important for nature and the harvest in the coming months.
Experts are now observing whether the amount of precipitation is sufficient to sustainably replenish water reserves in the affected regions. For the population and the agricultural sector, the weather remains an important topic for the next few days.
