Important changes to the Swiss Market Index (SMI)
The Swiss Market Index (SMI), Switzerland's most important stock index, is facing a significant change. On the index's 37th anniversary, there is a new composition that will be valid starting next Monday.
Two companies, Galderma and Sandoz, are being newly added to the SMI. These firms are thus moving up into the group of the 20 most important publicly traded companies in Switzerland. This change is a significant moment for the Swiss financial world.
In return, two other well-known companies must leave the index: Kühne + Nagel and Swisscom will no longer be part of the SMI as of Monday. This adjustment is the result of the regular review of the index composition by the stock exchange operators.
The changes demonstrate how dynamic the Swiss stock market is. Investors and analysts monitor such changes closely, as they often influence the weighting and performance of the entire index. For the companies involved, the promotion to the SMI also means increased attention from international investors.
