New Record: Switzerland's Largest Battery Storage Facility Put Into Operation
In the Uri municipality of Gurtnellen, a significant milestone for the Swiss energy transition has been reached. The companies Energie Uri and Axpo have officially commissioned the country's largest large-scale battery storage facility there.
This new installation plays an important role in stabilizing the Swiss power grid. Since the production of renewable energy such as solar or wind power can fluctuate, such storage systems help to store excess energy and release it back when needed.
The location in Gurtnellen was chosen strategically, as it is situated near existing energy infrastructure. The batteries can react to changes in the power grid within seconds, thereby helping to keep the grid frequency stable.
