Heatwave in Switzerland: Temperatures rise to as high as 35 degrees
It is currently very hot in Switzerland. An intensive heatwave is bringing high temperatures and plenty of sunshine across the country. The weather service has therefore issued an official warning, as the heat poses a strain for many people.
Temperatures are rising to as high as 35 degrees in many regions. For this reason, danger level 3 is currently in effect. This level means that there is a significant health risk, particularly for the elderly, children, and people with pre-existing conditions. The heat is especially noticeable in the lowlands and at lower altitudes.
According to meteorologists, this weather situation will persist for some time. The heatwave is expected to sweep across Switzerland until at least Thursday. Only towards the end of the week is a slight cooling or possible heat thunderstorms expected, which could provide some relief.
Experts advise the population to be particularly careful during these days. It is important to drink plenty of water throughout the day and avoid direct sunlight at midday. Additionally, it is recommended to postpone physical exertion outdoors to the cooler morning or evening hours.
The ongoing drought is also a challenge for nature. Since there is hardly any rain, the risk of forest fires is increasing in many forests. The authorities are therefore asking the population to be extra vigilant when handling fire outdoors so that the hot days can be weathered safely.
