2038 Winter Olympics: National Council approves financial aid
The Swiss National Council has taken an important step toward a potential Olympic bid. The members of parliament approved a financial contribution of 200 million francs to support the vision of hosting the Winter Olympics in Switzerland in 2038.
The organization Swiss Olympic is working intensively on this project. The goal is to bring the Games to Switzerland for the second time, following the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz. With this financial commitment from the federal government, the planning and preparation of the candidacy are to be secured for the coming years.
The decision in the National Council was made without a referendum. This means that parliament has approved the contribution directly. Political support is considered a key signal to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that Switzerland stands behind the project.
Whether Switzerland will actually be selected as host remains to be seen. The project is still in an early phase, during which feasibility and ecological aspects must be carefully examined. The coming years will show whether Switzerland can secure the bid for the major sporting event.
