Drama at the Ironman in Hawaii: Favorite collapses shortly before the finish line
A dramatic incident occurred this weekend at the prestigious Ironman in Hawaii. Norwegian athlete Solveig Løvseth, who had led the race for a long time, suffered a physical collapse just before the finish line.
Løvseth had been in the lead up to that point and was well on her way to victory. However, due to exhaustion, she was unable to finish the race under her own power. Medical personnel were immediately on hand to attend to the athlete.
This incident changed the outcome of the competition at the last second. American Taylor Knibb took advantage of the situation, overtook the Norwegian, and secured first place in the demanding triathlon.
The Ironman in Hawaii is considered one of the toughest competitions in the world. The extreme climatic conditions and the high physical strain regularly push athletes to their absolute limits. There is currently no further official information regarding Solveig Løvseth's current state of health.
