A Look at Switzerland and the World: From Traditions to Modern Heroes
In the Netherlands, there are currently serious allegations of police violence. A video on social media shows a police officer violently throwing a woman to the ground. The Dutch police have already launched an investigation to examine the incident closely and clarify the background.
There are also concerns in Switzerland regarding biodiversity. The organization ProSpecieRara, which works to protect old livestock breeds and plant varieties, is in a financial crisis. Over the past five years, the organization has lost many donors. Additionally, new federal regulations are making the breeding of rare species more difficult, threatening diversity in Swiss agriculture.
On the other hand, there is reason to celebrate at the Umbrail Pass. Switzerland's highest mountain pass road is celebrating its 125th anniversary. The pass connects the Val Müstair in Graubünden with Italy and has a long history. Fittingly for the anniversary, the weather is showing its best side. The images of the week show a heatwave in Switzerland, where even brown bears in the zoo are being cooled down with ice cream.
However, the beautiful summer weather also leads to challenges in everyday life. Many people in Switzerland complain about so-called "density stress." It often becomes very crowded, especially in outdoor swimming pools, on highways, and on trains. A survey shows that many citizens no longer feel comfortable in these places because there is not enough space for so many people.
In international football, there is interesting news from the club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Coach Luis Enrique explains that the team is more successful without superstars like Messi or Mbappé. The focus is now on team spirit instead of individual egos. Fitting the theme of emotions in sports, a psychologist explains why football fans often lose control and why it is completely normal for men to cry during important matches.
In the world of entertainment, a young princess is causing a stir. 14-year-old Norodom Jenna from Cambodia is inspiring millions of people. She speaks five languages, is a great singing talent, and is praised for her modest appearance. Also very successful is the series "Off Campus." The romance about ice hockey players reached 36 million viewers in a short time because it addresses modern relationships and serious topics.
Finally, there is an important message for the youth from Zurich rapper MC Hero. In a personal conversation, he spoke about his past and his image. He wants to be a role model and warns young people against taking drugs. His clear message is: drugs are not cool and they destroy lives.
