Major Diplomatic Developments: Imminent Agreement Between Washington and Tehran and International Movements at G7 Summit
The international arena is witnessing rapid diplomatic movements, as Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the United States and Iran could reach a final agreement to end the war in the Middle East within just 24 hours. Pakistan, playing the role of mediator, confirmed that the two parties have agreed on a framework for a comprehensive peace agreement that could change the balance of power in the region.
Despite this positive news, field and political challenges remain; the Strait of Hormuz region witnessed new military skirmishes between the two parties coinciding with the approach of the agreement. Reports also show a gap in how the agreement is portrayed between Washington and Tehran, as each side presents a different narrative to its citizens regarding the technical details and final terms of this anticipated agreement.
In a related context, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei explained that the official signing of the "Islamabad Memorandum" will not take place on Sunday as expected. Baghaei indicated that determining the exact date for the signing is still under consideration, reflecting the existence of some details that need final settlement before the official announcement.
On the other hand, US President Donald Trump is preparing to participate in the G7 summit, where he is scheduled to hold important meetings with leaders from the Middle East. Trump will also attend a special working session with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss the latest developments in the war in Ukraine and ways of international support in the coming stage.
Regarding Iranian internal affairs, authorities in Tehran announced details and dates for the funeral of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Official funeral ceremonies are scheduled to begin on July 4th in the capital, Tehran, and will conclude with his burial in the city of Mashhad on the 9th of the same month.
On the Ukrainian front, Ukrainian forces are seeking through their military operations to cut off supply routes to the Russian-controlled Crimean Peninsula. To counter the shortage of soldiers and Russia's superiority in manpower, President Zelenskyy announced new measures including increasing military salaries and facilitating the joining of foreign fighters to the army.
Finally, "Somaliland" emphasized its right to choose its independent international relations, coinciding with the opening of its new representative office in Taiwan. Authorities there stated that pressure from Beijing and Mogadishu has not succeeded and will not prevent them from strengthening cooperation with international partners of their own choosing.
