UN Security Council Condemns Attack on Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the UAE
The United Nations Security Council on Tuesday condemned the attack targeting the "Barakah" nuclear power plant in the United Arab Emirates. The Council emphasized in an official statement that such acts constitute a serious threat to regional security and stability, stressing the need to protect vital facilities.
Members of the Security Council expressed their deep concern regarding the targeting of energy infrastructure. The statement noted that attacks on nuclear facilities, even those intended for peaceful purposes, increase tensions in the region and put civilian lives at risk, in addition to potential threats to the environment.
The Barakah nuclear power plant is a major strategic project for the UAE, through which it aims to produce clean energy and reduce reliance on traditional fuels. This project is considered the first of its kind in the Arab world, making it an important center for technological and economic development in the region.
In concluding its statement, the UN Security Council called for the necessity of conducting thorough investigations to hold those responsible for this act accountable. It also urged all parties to adhere to international laws that protect civilian facilities and to ensure that such incidents, which could lead to dire consequences at both local and international levels, are not repeated.
