Diplomatic Developments and Field Tensions: From Peace Talks to International Crises
The United States and Iran, with the participation of a Pakistani mediator, have announced significant progress in ongoing talks to end the war in the Middle East. Senior officials from both sides indicated on Saturday that they may be close to reaching a historic draft agreement, with expectations for tangible results in the coming days.
Despite this diplomatic progress, Iran's chief negotiator and Speaker of Parliament, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, issued a stern warning to Washington. During his meeting with the Pakistani army chief, he emphasized that Tehran would not compromise in the negotiations and threatened a "crushing" response if the United States decided to return to hostile operations or resume the war.
In a related context, field tensions continued in the region, as Israel launched raids on southern Lebanon despite the existence of a ceasefire agreement. For its part, Hezbollah stated that Iran has clearly pledged not to abandon the group, confirming the continuation of Iranian support for it in the face of Israeli attacks.
On the European diplomatic front, France has taken the decision to ban Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir from entering its territory. This decision came after the minister was accused of mocking activists detained by the Israeli army, with the French Foreign Minister confirming that this measure reflects Paris's rejection of such actions.
Regarding the war in Ukraine, the conflict entered its 1,550th day with escalating Ukrainian drone and missile attacks deep inside Russian territory, exerting significant pressure on the Kremlin. At the same time, media reports indicated that former U.S. President Donald Trump's team has withdrawn from talks aimed at ending the Russian invasion, increasing uncertainty over the future of peaceful solutions.
Finally, in Turkey, police arrested 13 people as part of an investigation related to the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) congress held in 2023. These arrests come as part of ongoing investigations into the electoral process that led to the selection of the party's leadership at that time.
