Reduction in the number of trains to Rotterdam after a break in the track at the Boldervaart bridge
Train services to and from Rotterdam have seen a significant decline this week due to a break in one of the railway sections, according to NS (Dutch Railways). The problem began on Friday morning and is expected to last throughout the weekend while maintenance teams work to repair the damaged section of the line.
The disruption occurred in the section between Delft Campus and Schiedam, where the track broke at the Poldervaart Bridge, according to a spokesperson for ProRail speaking to RTV Rijnmond. He explained that the repair process will be complicated and lengthy because the rails are embedded in concrete.
ProRail, the organization responsible for managing the railway infrastructure in the Netherlands, confirmed that repair work will continue until Sunday, noting that services will not fully resume until the damaged part is replaced and safety tests are conducted on it.
This disruption particularly affects travelers between The Hague, Leiden, Delft, and Rotterdam. NS has adjusted the schedules and warned passengers to check for updates before traveling.
The company advised travelers to allocate extra time for their journeys and to expect significant delays on the affected lines. Alternative buses will be operated on some sections, but the return of train services to normal will not happen until the beginning of next week.
