Drunk taxi driver, passengers found in the trunk of the car
Police in Eindhoven uncovered shocking traffic violations during large-scale Carnival road checks. Among the most striking cases was a driver with white powder still visible under his nose and a drunk taxi driver carrying passengers in the trunk.
According to Omroep Brabant, officers stopped and checked 8,928 motorists over five days of Carnival. A total of 37 drivers were fined for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and seven driving licenses were confiscated.
One of the most serious cases involved a taxi driver who was intoxicated while transporting eight passengers. Three of them were found riding in the trunk of the vehicle. Police immediately revoked his license.
Another driver lost his license after being caught driving under the influence with two young children seated in the back. In a separate incident, a man was arrested after officers noticed white powder still on his nose during a checkpoint stop. He was charged with driving under the influence and possession of hard drugs.
The checks were carried out at four access roads around Eindhoven, where motorists were directed into control points. Police also used a new detection device called a “sniffer,” which can identify alcohol use from a short distance near the mouth and works faster than a traditional breathalyzer.
